Welcome!
February 2010
Welcome to the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel Website. Please bookmark this site so that you can easily return. There are several items I want to mention.
New Fellows Nominations. The nominations process for new fellows has just begun and will remain open through May 14. At the bottom of this page is a link to the nomination form. Please take a minute to think of fellow practitioners who may be worthy nominees (if you’re not sure who is currently a member, you can find a list of current members by going to the “About the Fellows” tab). New fellows are very appreciative of their membership in the ACEBC, both in terms of comradeship and the activities available to them as members.
2010 Dinner. The Annual Dinner will be held Saturday, September 25 in Toronto. This year the Annual Dinner has been scheduled to coincide with the fall meetings of the ABA Tax Section and Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law, Trust & Estate Division, allowing ACEBC members to also participate in those activities. The Dinner Committee is hard at work planning a memorable program, and we will be sharing details with you in the near future. Please save the date on your calendar.
Member Teleconferences. As was announced last year, the ACEBC now gives members a chance to arrange teleconferences among themselves to discuss benefits issues. Last year two successful teleconferences were held: one on the TARP executive compensation rules and the second on healthcare reform legislation. Click the tab marked “Member Teleconferencing” at the top of the page for an explanation of how the teleconferences will work. If you are interested in initiating a Member Teleconference, all you need to do is send a description of your proposed topic to CaseK@staff.abanet.org.
Members Only Area. The “Members Only Area,” is the link at the top right of the page. The password to the link has been sent to Members via a separate email. Currently the link has copies of the presentations made at the 2009 Annual Meeting (“The Market Meltdown and Its Effect on Employee Benefits: Consequences for Employees, Employers and Unions”) and the 2008 annual meeting (the “China Seminar”).
The Board has adopted a mission statement and continually works on identifying goals and activities to meet our mission: fostering excellence in the practice of employee benefits law and advancing public understanding of employee benefits. New projects are continually being developed, and we welcome participation in the development of College activities from all of the College Fellows.
