Nell Hennessy Moot Court Competition

The Second Annual Ellen A. (Nell) Hennessy Moot Court Competition, hosted by the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, will be held on February 23, 2019, at Catholic University of America, Columbia School of Law.

This year’s problem will address issues arising from the denial of disability benefits under ERISA-covered plans, particularly the legal standards that courts should apply when reviewing a plan’s claims denials. Key dates and preliminary information are below.

Registration Fee and Deadline:

  • Deadline for registration: Friday, November 9, 2018
  • $400 registration fee per team. Final date for withdrawal Friday, January 18, 2019.
  • A school may enter up to two teams consisting of at least two members and no more than three members each, but only two may argue during any one session. An additional (third) team may be considered as space allows.

Expected Schedule:

  • Release problem and program rules to competitors: Friday, November 16, 2018.
  • Briefs due: Friday, January 18, 2019
