Alvin D. Lurie

Alvin Lurie of Larchmont, NY and Boston, MA, died on November 17th, 2015 at the age of 92 years.

Mr. Lurie was President of Alvin D. Lurie, P.C. and Of Counsel to The Wagner Law Group. He received his LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws) from Cornell School of Law, Ithaca, NY and was co-editor-in-chief of the Cornell Law Quarterly (1943-1944).

Mr. Lurie was admitted to practice in New York State, District of Columbia, U.S. Supreme Court, Court of Appeals of 2nd Circuit, U.S. Tax Court, and other federal courts. He was the first individual to be appointed Assistant Commissioner (Employee Plans and Exempt Organizations) under ERISA, to administer pension law and to regulate entire body of public and private retirement plans and exempt organizations (including charities, churches, public and private foundations, labor unions, et al). For that service he was recipient of the Commissioner’s Award “for exceptional leadership.”

Mr. Lurie received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Employee Benefits Committee of the American Bar Association Tax Section (2007). He was the General Editor of Bender’s Federal Income Taxation of Retirement Plans and Editor of the annual NYU Review of Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation and a Charter Fellow of the College.
