Ethan Lipsig has been a partner in Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP's Los Angeles office for around 30 years. Mr. Lipsig founded Paul Hastings' ERISA Practice Group. Mr. Lipsig concentrates in executive employment matters, reduction-in-force programs, and employee benefits litigation, although he is experienced in the entire range of employment and employee benefit issues and is recognized as such in Best Lawyers in America, Chambers U.S.A., and Who's Who in America. Chambers USA ranked him as one of California's five leading employment lawyers and one of California's two leading employee benefit lawyers in its 2006 survey, and he has been similarly highly ranked by Chambers since then. Among the many innovations to his credit, Mr. Lipsig pioneered the Section 401(k) plan, the use of convertible debentures to compensate executives, Section 401(h) retiree health plan funding, and tax-effective nonqualified deferred compensation for partnerships. Mr. Lipsig is married to Joanne Lipsig. They live in Pasadena, California. Mr. Lipsig is a member of the Board of Overseers of the The Huntington Library, chairing its Botanical Gardens Committee. Mr. Lipsig's interests include art, music, travel, and hiking. He collects wine and pocket watches.
