James S. Ray

For more than 30 years, Jim Ray has represented multiemployer benefit funds, labor organizations, labor-management cooperation organizations, and workers before courts, government agencies, and the Congress. He served two three-year terms on the ERISA Advisory Council of the U.S. Department of Labor, including a year as Chair and a year as Vice Chair, in both Democratic and Republican Administrations. He is a Charter Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel as well as a Charter Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. He served two three-year terms as a member of the Council of the Labor & Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association (ABA), as well as terms as Chairman of the ABA Joint Committee on Employee Benefits and as Co-Chairman of both the Employee Benefits Committee and the Committee on Federal Legislative Developments of the Labor & Employment Law Section. He is the 2006 recipient of the John L. Lewis Award (NCCMP) for distinguished service to the multiemployer benefit plan community. He is the Principal of the Law Offices of James S. Ray PLLC, Alexandria, Virginia in which he is joined by his wife of 38 years, Kitty, and two of their three daughters.
